About the Artist
“Unfortunately, I was never given a camera when I was little,” Kévin Métailler jokes, evoking his early days of photography. It was his passion for skateboarding, when he was about 18, that led to his desire to capture images. With his father, a police officer in a scientific department , he learned to develop and print photographs, particularly in black and white, using “anthropometric photographs and crime scenes!” Since then, his subjects have mostly been skateboarding and surfing, which have enabled him to become a major reference in this milieu. His photos have been published for years in specialised magazines all over Europe (Red Bulletin, L'Equipe, Dogway, Thrasher, Modart, etc.). Parallel to this activity, he created Studio 255, which produces ad campaigns or editorial series in the fashion world (with Rip Curl, for instance). Based on the coast of the Basque Country, he is also involved in media such as De Biarritz Yearbook (DPY Éditions) for which he is the photo editor, or Skateboard Annual Magazine for which he is co-editor in chief. In 2024, he will release DUSTY HOPE, a book of surfing photographs set in Baja California, supported by the PICTURE brand.
