He is one of those talented artists whose vocation was revealed very early on. A child prodigy, the Finnish Antti Viitala was only fourteen when he tried to create his first images through the viewfinder of his camera. He started his career as an assistant to major advertising and fashion photographers, before roaming the world himself in search of grandiose panoramas. With no geographical constraints, he criss-crossed the globe on his travels from Iceland to South Africa, pondering the power of nature. The elegant Seascapes series documents the autumnal storms on the South African beach of Cape Town, in a minimalist style. Preferring to work on site and in natural lighting, the photographic approach of Antti Vittala pays tribute to the artisans of the past. He combines the inspiration of the old masters with a savvy mastery of new technologies, enabling him to capture the movements of the water and sky in their most subtle textures and hues.
