Thijs Spuijbroek
Thijs Spuijbroek owes his passion for photography to a traditional Nikon F60 camera that his father gave him for his sixteenth birthday. Today, he specialises in landscape photography, helped by his profession as a pilot, which has enabled him to travel to the four corners of the globe and, of course, to bring his camera with him: “Photography enables me to capture a unique moment in a given place, a moment that will never happen again in the same way,” he explains. Born in the Netherlands, he now lives in Barcelona (Spain) and is surprised to see tourists taking photographs of his city in ten seconds, publishing them on social networks, to then possibly never look at them again. His approach is very different: “My goal is to capture all of the beauty our world offers us and to transform it into a work of fine art,” he insists. “Art gives you the possibility of immortalising the vision of a landscape and being able to look at it later whenever you like.”

Interview
Why photography?
Photography gives me the ability to freeze a unique moment in a specific place. A moment that will never happen again exactly in the same way. A stunning sunrise or sunset set against a beautiful scenery that maybe lasts for only a couple of seconds has been captured through my lens and can be relived at any time.
Your inspiration?
My main inspiration comes from my travels as a commercial pilot. I feel privileged to be able to visit amazing landscapes all over the world and I take my camera with me everywhere to be able to capture those unique moments. I also draw inspiration and get ideas from the work of other photographer like Elia Locardi and by following the adventures of Chris Burkard.
What is unique in your photographs?
I am always searching for unique moments. That specific light at sunrise or sunset, the autumnal colours that maybe only last for a couple weeks. For me it’s a challenge to capture these moments, they give a dynamic and colourful toch to the photographs.
