Rick Stolk
Rick Stolk is a Dutch photographer who has been taking pictures since he was 10! In 1996, he entered the photo design department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, from which he graduated four years later. Today, he works for magazines, institutions such as the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam and on his own projects. His photos are very uncluttered and tend towards the abstract: "I'm particularly influenced by photographers who don't put many people in their pictures," he admits, "and I have a particular taste for Scandinavian cinema." In 2018, he suffered a hernia in his lower back that forced him to limp and take numerous painkillers with particularly harmful side effects: "When I walked, I saw the reality around me a fraction behind reality," he explains. The result is his Shaken ("Bancal") series, in which he superimposes several photos taken at very short intervals to form a single image.
