Our sea photography collection: calm, rough, night or day
Photographing the sea is a fascinating subject. The reflections of the water, the foam of the waves or the fine sandy beaches... This treasure of nature is very often associated with holidays, relaxation, calmness as well as travel or exoticism, because it delivers a feeling of calm. However, in another sense, the sea - like the ocean - can also represent turmoil, movement and even fear or infinity.
There are as many seas as there are photographs as many images and views as there are artists of this everchanging and infinite blue. Photographing seascapes is a complex exercise that requires in-depth analysis of several factors: movement, luminosity and shutter speed. These are mandatory settings to take into account on your camera, in order to obtain beautiful photos with a nice image quality.
The most beautiful shots from the best photographers
Jules Valentin shows that he masters all the codes and techniques through his photography. Indeed, he offers mainly black-and-white sea shots in which light plays a major role. Thus, his images draw the eye to all the contrasts conveyed by the water and its strength. He plunges the viewer into a fascinating universe. The sea being an element in perpetual evolution, the waves that make it up constitute an indispensable element to be taken into account in this type of photography, they bring movement and texture and give life to the captured moment, which is especially noticeable in the scenes highlighting lighthouses or pontoons. In his series, Antti Viitala plays with the swell as well as with time. He captures the movement of the waves to freeze them and places the viewer at the heart of a moving and untameable nature. He also likes to play with colours and contrasts to capture wonderful sunsets.
For other photographers, the treatment of the sea as a subject can be entirely different. Richard Hirst for example, distinguishes himself from his colleagues by choosing a completely different angle: the aerial view. He offers a collection of photos of beaches seen from above, of stretches of fine sand meeting the blue sea. A complete and frozen contrast. If for Richard Hirst, the sea is synonymous with holidays, parasols and lazing on the beach, for Marc Adamus it is above all an integral part of our nature. He captures the sea at the heart of his landscapes, not making it the sole subject of the shot, but an aspect of the setting that is enhanced by other elements and vice versa , from nature to architecture. He advocates a marvellous ensemble by creating dreamlike universes that fit in wonderfully with all interior decorations, which can be highlighted with aluminium frames.
