Interview
Why photography?
I had no aptitude for drawing or painting on canvas, so to satisfy my artistic side, I opted for photography. My father was an amateur photographer, and as a child he taught me the basics of photography as well as darkroom printing techniques. The magic of seeing an image appear on paper fascinated me deeply. Over time, my passion for photography has only grown, and I continue to learn and perfect my photographic style.
Your inspiration, particularly artistic?
The work of Julia Anna Gospodarou has greatly influenced me, with her mastery of light and her original compositions.
What characterizes your writing?
I really like simplicity, an interesting detail, a thoughtful play of light. Architectural photography must remain simple, while at the same time highlighting the main subject.
Do you have a particular technique?
All my image processing is done in Photoshop and takes me an average of ten hours of work. I really enjoy manipulating the light by selecting all the key elements in the image.
Do you have an anecdote to share with us?
Several years ago, I took a trip to Poland where I stayed in a small hotel in Krakow. The security of the place seemed questionable to me. The first morning, while I was in the shower, my watch, wallet and CD player were stolen. Luckily, the thief didn't notice my camera bag on the edge of the bed, containing $8,000 worth of equipment inside! I was lucky in my misfortune, as my watch was worth next to nothing and I only had $5 in my wallet. The rest of the trip went well, and I had the opportunity to visit Auschwitz, which to this day remains etched in my fondest memories.
What photo would you like to have taken?
The photo of Paul Henderson's winning goal in the 1972 Century Series between Russia and Canada. Even though I'm not a sports photographer and I wasn't born in 1972, for a hockey-loving Canadian, it remains a historic moment in our country's history.
What's your proudest moment?
I was lucky enough to represent Canada at the WPC Awards in 2021 and win a silver medal, which enabled us to finish 3rd overall. For me, photography is a personal and individual process. To have been able to share this experience with a group of Canadian photographers of this stature will remain an unforgettable experience.
What are your next projects?
A book or a vernissage.
