Teresa Freitas

Like many photographers of her generation, it was through Instagram and social networks that Teresa Freitas, born in 1990 in Portugal, first came to photography. After obtaining her diploma in Multimedia Art, delivered by the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, she launched her professional life accompanying brands and companies, notably Netflix or Dior, in the artistic approach of their social networks. Following a trip to San Francisco, she developed her now characteristic style: photos in pastel and very light hues. “My use of colour modifies the perception of the subject,” she explains. “I give it a less real, more cinematic aspect.” Her influences can naturally be found in painting, but also in film, notably the films of Jacques Tati or Hayao Miyazaki, in which, she says, “colour is an integral part of the narrative”. Her first exhibition, solely dedicated to her photos, took place in 2022 in Seoul and was very warmly received by the Korean public. London-based Setanta Books published a collection of her photographs, now available online.
